Local media reports demonstrations by opposition parties are scheduled to take place in Tbilisi on Rustaveli Avenue in front of Parliament at two o’clock pm on Thursday, April 9.  U.S. Embassy staff members have been instructed to avoid the downtown area for the duration of the demonstrations.  The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi urges American citizens in Georgia to avoid any areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.  We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possible escalate into violence.  American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events, be aware of their surroundings at all times, and review their emergency preparedness plans.
