Political tensions have increased significantly between the government authorities in Tbilisi and local authorities in Tskhinvali in South Ossetia. The U.S. Embassy advises that increased tensions could lead to hostilities. It recommends that Americans avoid travel to South Ossetia and maintain contact with the Embassy for the latest information on the security situation in South Ossetia before traveling in that region.
