Georgia will be holding parliamentary elections on March 28, 2004 . Sporadic political violence has occurred in the city of Batumi in Ajara and may continue in Ajara or throughout the country in the run-up to the elections. American citizens in Georgia should remain vigilant during this period and should avoid demonstrations and large crowds. U.S. citizens traveling to Ajara should be particularly aware of political tensions there and review their personal security precautions as appropriate. U.S. citizens may also consult with the Consular section of the U.S. Embassy for updated security information.
