Applicants

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time course of post-secondary study and pursuing a degree from an accredited educational institution
    • All students in an undergraduate program may participate
  • Must demonstrate they will resume studies after participating in SWT
    • Final year students will need to show strong plans for graduate school or work after returning to Georgia
  • Need to demonstrate English proficiency at a level at which they can successfully perform their job and live in the U.S.

Recruiter Requirements

Agencies that wish to participate in the SWT program must be able to provide students with Department of State authorized DS-2019 forms. If your agency plans to participate in the 2008 Summer Work and Travel Program, please contact the embassy at tbilisivisa@state.gov.  You will be contacted with additional questions.

Application Procedures

Applications for SWT may be submitted via the standard application procedure.  All SWT applicants must complete the DS-156, DS-157 and DS-158 forms in English and must schedule their interview.  For further instructions, please see our non-immigrant visa application procedures here
All SWT applications must include the following items:

  • Coversheet. This cover page lists the applicants and includes: full name, date of birth, university name and location, year of study, number of times already participated in SWT
  • Application fee receipt paid in Georgian Lari at TBC-Bank
  • Each student’s individual application. Documents required:
    • Visa application forms DS-156 (only one copy) with a color photo of the applicant against a light background, DS-157, DS-158. The local recruiter’s seal is required on each DS-156. These documents must be in English
    • DS-2019 – original, plus one copy
    • Student certificate
    • Grade book  
    • Student ID
    • Copy of job letter
    • Parents’ job letters
    • Parents’ financial information
    • A valid passport
    • SEVIS fee receipt

Interviews

Every applicant must come to the Embassy for a personal interview and fingerprinting. Appointments will be granted on a "first come, first served" basis.
Applicants must remove all metal objects, such as cell phones, music players, lighters, etc., before entering the Embassy. If possible, such items should not be brought to the Embassy at all.

Return Verification

Applicants for Summer Work & Travel programs in 2009 must complete their programs and return to Georgia by October 1, 2009. We will verify the return of all SWT participants.
