American and Georgian Officials Inaugurate the New Port of Entry at Sadakhlo

“What used to be a single cabin operation and could hardly be called a check-point has now turned into a port of entry with three gates, incessant flow of customers and doubled capacity” – this is how Head of the Revenues Service of Georgia described the US Government funded construction of the Georgia-Armenia border crossing at Sadakhlo.

The new border crossing facility is a recent project of the U.S. Border Security and Law Enforcement (GBSLE) program in Georgia, valued at 2.2 million USD.
The Sadakhlo Border Crossing facilitates the entry of commercial cargo via semi-truck transport into Georgia, commercial export truck traffic into Armenia, and the entry and exit of persons between Georgia and Armenia. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilitated implementation of the project. The Georgian construction company Arch Studio completed the work in 18 months.

Ambassador John Tefft, Head of the Revenue Department Grigol Gobejishvili, Head of Border Police Department Badri Bitsadze and Governor of the Kvemo Kartli region Zurab Melikishvili inaugurated Sadakhlo Port of Entry on October 25, 2007, together with the representatives of the Georgian Customs and Border Police on the ground.

“I’m happy that such important project was carried out with the support of the United States. This building is constructed in accordance with the international standards, the modern technology will facilitate uninterrupted movement of the population and transit traffic” – General Bitsadze told the Georgian media.
