U.S. Destroyer Makes Port Call in Batumi

The USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) will make a port call in port of Batumi next week.  The USS Donald Cook is in the Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers.  The ship’s Commanding Officer is Commander William Parker.  There are several training events planned with the Georgian Coast Guard and Georgian Navy including ship board training and an at-sea portion where the Georgian Navy will participate in exercises with the USS Donald Cook.  There are also several events planned with the city of Batumi including a social and a community relations project where members of the crew will participate in a beautification project with the mayor’s office.

Captain George “Chip” Walter, the Commanding Officer of Task Force-67, will also accompany the ship to the port of Batumi. Commodore Walter plans to visit with high level members of the Georgian Navy, the Georgian Coast Guard as well as the Mayor of Batumi and the Head of the Government in the Autonomous Republic of Ajara.
