Open World Leadership Center Announces Expansion Of Programs To Georgia And Other Eurasian Countries

Washington, DC – The Open World Leadership Center has announced the expansion of its Open World program to Georgia and other Eurasian countries.  Open World is an independent agency headquartered at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.   Since 1999, Open World has brought nearly 12,000 political and civic leaders from Eurasian countries to the United States to experience American civil society, enhance professional skills, and establish lasting ties with their U.S. counterparts.

Georgia was selected as the first country to send a delegation under the Open World expansion program.  The first delegation, composed of lawyers and local government officials from Georgia, will depart for the U.S. on February 28.

The new Open World expansion program will bring some 125 political and civic leaders from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Tajikistan to the United States this year.  Open World delegations are focused on specific themes, including Accountable Governance, Rule of Law, Education and Social ServicesOnce in the U.S., the delegations will be hosted by Open World grantees, including the Academy for Educational Development, National Peace Foundation, Vital Voices Global Partnership, and others. 

The opening event for the new Georgia program will take place at the Hotel Kopala at 16.00 on Feb. 27.  U.S. Ambassador John Tefft will make the opening remarks.
