Chargé d’Affaires Bridget Brink, Director of the Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia Nikoloz Vacheishvili and Director of National Museum of Georgia Davit Lortkipanidze marked the completion of the conservation work at Armaztsikhe archeological site. The Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation was funded $42,846 in 2010 under the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation to carry out conservation works.
Armaztsikhe is one of the most significant archeological sites in Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital city. This archaeological property has faced serious problems of protection. The UNESCO world heritage committee had expressed its “serious concern” about the state of the conservation. Armaztsikhe conservation work was the 11th project funded in Georgia through AFCP.
