Tbilisi American Corner Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

On November 28, DCM Bridget Brink, PAO Michael Turner and Press-AttachéMichael Harvey opened the Fifth Anniversary celebration of the Tbilisi Youth PalaceAmerican Corner. The U.S. Embassy and the Youth Palace have had a productive five yearscollaborating together to provide American literature, music, classic films andspeakers programming as well as a summer school and a variety of clubs andactivities aimed at helping young people better understand American people andculture. In the past five years, over 32,000 people have visited the Youth PalaceAmerican Corner including U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. Currently, AmericanCorners are located in eight cities: Akhaltsikhe, Batumi, Gori, Khashuri, Rustavi,Telavi, Tbilisi and Zugdidi. A ninth American Corner is slated to be opened inKutaisi. The same day DCM Brink announced a competition for young people ages 15-25 fora special U.S. Embassy logo that will commemorate 20 years of U.S. and Georgianfriendship. Next year, the U.S. Embassy will honor two decades of diplomaticrelations with Georgia with a series of events throughout 2012.
