Ambassador Norland, Minister Gharibashvili visit Supsa and Poti (April 2)

On April 2, Ambassador Norland and Minister of Interior Gharibashvili inaugurated the Maritime Fusion Center in Supsa. The center is a unique facility on the Black Sea designed to fight against illicit traffic and crime through interagency cooperation.   The U.S. Government, through the State Departments Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program, provided $1.2 Million to fund the center to enhance safety and security of Georgia as a transit country.  In Poti, on the same day, Ambassador Norland and Minister Gharibashvili participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on EXBS funded Vessel Repair Facility, worth of $6 Million, on the Coast Guard Base in Poti.   The USG has provided over $12 Million to enhance border security and maritime domain awareness in Georgia since 2006.
