Assistant Secretary Gordon visit to Tbilisi, June 9-11, 2009
In his first official visit to Georgia, State Department Assistant Secretary for European Affairs, Philip Gordon, met with a wide range of political figures in order to familiarize himself with the situation in the country. During his discussions with government and opposition leaders, he reaffirmed U.S. support for Georgia, encouraged continued democratic reforms, and expressed strong regret at Russia's actions in blocking the extension of peace monitoring missions.
