U.S. Government Presents Small Grants Award
October 25, 2000
Tbilisi - On October 25th, U.S. Ambassador Kenneth S. Yalowitz will award 27 Democracy Commission and library development grants totaling approximately $350,000. The recipients of the grants will implement projects that promote democracy, civil society, and independent media throughout Georgia.
The U.S. Government initiated the Democracy Commission Small Grants program in 1994 as a way for its embassies to support local democratic initiatives in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Since 1996, the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi has actively awarded grants that complement the bold reforms taking place in Georgia, which are paving the way for economic recovery and the growth of democracy.
The awards ceremony will take place at 6:00 p.m on October 25th at the U.S. Embassy. For further information about the Democracy Commission Small Grants program, contact Dali Homeriki at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, 93 56 72.
