U.S. Government Facilitates a Web-site Providing Comprehensive Information on International Aid and Local NGO Activities in Georgia

Tbilisi - On Friday, September 15, 2000 the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Save the Children Federation (SCF), and the Coordination Department for International Humanitarian Aid (CDIHA) will hold a public presentation of the Assistance Georgia web-site. The web-site is maintained by the Coordination Department for International Humanitarian Aid (CDIHA) of the Government of Georgia, with the technical assistance of Save the Children under the Georgia Assistance Initiative (GAI) Program funded by USAID and managed by SCF in three regions of Western Georgia – Imereti, Guria and Samegrelo.

The web-site is designed to serve the needs of Georgian and International organizations working on relief and development activities in Georgia, as well as the Government of Georgia, as the primary source of information about International aid and local NGO activities in Georgia.

Contents of the web site are:

  • Legislation, taxation and regulatory policies of Government of Georgia for NGOs
  • CDIHA Quarterly Reports on humanitarian aid activities
  • Program activities and descriptions by organization and geographic location
  • Surveys, assessments and statistics
  • Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Response mapping
  • Interactive question/answer
  • Message board
  • Relevant links for program support

GAI is a three year program with overall funding of $8 million and activities in the areas of income generation, health, shelter and social infrastructure aimed at reducing human suffering among vulnerable groups directly affected by the conflict in Abkhazia. An important component of the program is information management, aimed at strengthening the Government of Georgia’s capacity to collect, analyze and disseminate information about humanitarian programs.

The presentation will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the 5th floor conference room in the USAID offices at the Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel, Tbilisi, Georgia.
