Annual Georgia-U.S. Bilateral Defense Consultations End
June 22, 2000

Tbilisi-- United States and Georgian representatives completed this year's annual defense Bilateral Working Group session in Tbilisi today. U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Ted Warner and Georgian Defense Minister David Tevzadze headed their respective delegations, which discussed the progress of defense cooperation between the two nations. The main themes of this year's conference were to Georgian efforts to downsize and reform its armed forces and areas in which the United States

is assisting in this reform and modernization process. At the end of the session, the two delegation heads signed the year 2000 U.S.-Georgia Defense Cooperation Plan and a Joint Statement on Defense Environmental Cooperation. Next year's Bilateral Working Group Meeting is scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C.
