U.S. Government Supports Georgia’s Local Elections
In the run up to the October 5, 2006 local government elections, the U.S. Government has allocated over $640,000 to promote voter turnout and to verify the conduct of the election. U.S. assistance is supporting voter education, candidate training, election observation by local election observation organizations, parallel vote tabulation in Georgia's largest cities, and a get-out-the vote campaign targeted at youth. The assistance is implemented by the International Republic Institute (IRI), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Urban Institute, the Eurasia Foundation, and the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section.
