USAID Opens New Building, Celebrates 15 Years Work

“USAID has played a very important role in helping to build this country; without their support we would not have made the progress we have been able to make” said Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava as USAID opened its new building on the embassy compound on July 23rd. Five State Ministers; Sandra Roelovs, the Georgian First Lady; and Nino Burjanadze, the former Speaker of Parliament attended along with other distinguished visitors to celebrate USAID’s 15 years of service in Georgia and anticipate overcoming new challenges. Ambassador Tefft, USAID Assistant Administrator Sean Mulvaney, USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Ken Yamashita, and the mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava, gave remarks in the ribbon-cutting ceremony which was widely covered by the Georgian media. While in Tbilisi, Ken Yamashita also opened a power generating project and celebrated the implementation of a Customs Risk Management system which will greatly improve the business climate in Georgia.
