| The American Center for Information Resources
is the research and reference service of the United States Embassy
in Tbilisi, specializing in current U.S. policy, legislation, social
and cultural issues.
The collection of print reference sources is small but regularly
updated. The ACIR is able to provide Georgian government officials,
parliament members, journalists and researchers who have a professional
interest in the United States with authoritative and fresh information,
with information from different Internet-based commercial databases.
These databases, such as Factiva and Lexis-Nexis, provide information
about U.S. federal legislation and full text of thousands of newspapers
and magazines articles.
The ACIR provides information support to all US mission programs.
Since 2003, the Center has coordinated the American Corners Program
in Georgia - which is
a relatively new but popular State Department program. American Corners
located in libraries in Tbilisi, Gori, Telavi, and Khashuri provide
resources about the United States to Georgians and host speaker programs,
clubs and activities that help Georgians develop a greater understanding
of US society and values.
Two U.S.- trained specialists provide quick reference assistance and
research, utilizing print and digital sources. ACIR accepts queries
by telephone, e-mail, and fax or in person (by appointment) Monday
through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except American
and Georgian holidays.
Training/demonstration sessions using the resources and services
of ACIR can be arranged for groups upon request.
