United States Donates Tool Trucks and Equipment to Georgian Revenue Service and Border Police (July 30, 2009)

On July 30, 2009, Ambassador John Tefft will transfer two tool trucks and a variety of equipment to the Georgian Revenue Service and Border Police.  Grigol Gobejishvili, the Head of the Georgian Revenue Service and General Zaza Gogava, the Head of the Georgian Border Police, will attend the transfer ceremony. These trucks, the same as those used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the U.S. will help Georgian Revenue Service officers examine vehicles, vessels, cargo and trucks entering, exiting and transiting Georgia.  The tools and equipment contained in the trucks will enable the Revenue Service to address emerging threats wherever they may arise.  They will also enhance the patrol capabilities and living conditions of the Border Police especially in remote locations along Georgia's green borders.  The total value of this donation is $ 380,000. Over the past ten years, the United States has provided to the Georgian Coast Guard, Border Police, Patrol Police and Revenue Services over $150,000,000.00 worth of goods and services under the Georgia Border Security and Law Enforcement Program.
