U.S. Ambassador to open a new sports facility at Saguramo Institution for Orphans and Abandoned Children (November 4)
On November 4, at 12:00 P.M., U.S. Ambassador John Bass will participate in the opening of a new sports facility at Saguramo Educational Institution for Orphans and Abandoned Children. The U.S. Department of State supported the reconstruction project implemented by Counterpart International. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, representatives of Physicians With Heart (PWH) will deliver assistance in the form of bedding, school supplies, toys, vitamins and sports shoes to the needy children residing at the Institution. During this project Counterpart completely reconstructed the sports facility including locker rooms and a small storage room for sports inventory; electric lines were replaced; water supply, drain and waste systems renovated; new floors laid; old doors and windows replaced; ceilings and walls repaired and painted. The total project cost $17,000. Repair work was completed by Internally Displaced Persons from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, residing in Saguramo and nearby areas. The Saguramo Educational Institution serves 41 orphans and children from vulnerable families in Mtskheta District. It was established in 1961 and for the last 25 years no major repairs have been done to the building.
