Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Phillip Gordon
is visiting Tbilisi June 9-11. This is his first visit to Georgia. During his stay, Assistant Secretary Gordon will meet with President
Saakashvili, Speaker of Parliament Bakradze, Prime Minister Gilauri, Foreign
Minister Vashadze, other government officials, leaders of the opposition, and
civil society representatives. The purpose of his visit is to familiarize
himself with the current situation in Georgia and reiterate U.S. support for
Georgia’s democratic reform process as well as Georgia’s sovereignty and
territorial integrity.
