Nato conference result report
Within the framework of a Democracy Commission grant to develop an innovative and unique NATO Studies Program and Curriculum for Ilia Chavchavadze State University, PAS staff participated in a roundtable on December 6th on The Main Threats and Challenges on the Path to Euro-Atlantic Integration. The roundtable provided participants – government officials, NGO representatives, professors, journalists, experts and students – with the opportunity to learn more about the responsibilities and privileges that come with NATO membership. The NATO Studies Program will expose students to NATO, collective security institutions, and the ways in which NATO transforms societies to promote Euro-Atlantic standards, including democracy and civil society.
This is a critical time for Georgia and its NATO aspirations. In 2006 Georgia entered the stage of Intensified Dialogue with NATO and is now moving towards the next stage in the NATO membership process, a Membership Action Plan. In this context, the NATO Studies Program will prepare future opinion leaders and policy makers to contribute to ongoing reforms and help Georgia meet Euro-Atlantic standards.
