Washington University Students and Professors Visit the U.S. Embassy
On June 13, 2007, a group of American students and professors from Washington University in St. Louis visited the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia. The group was accompanied by Mr. Zurab Karumidze, Director of the U.S.-Caucasus Institute and Ms. Tamar Japaridze, Executive Director of the U.S. - Caucasus Institute. After an Embassy tour, Ambassador Tefft welcomed the group and talked about U.S. - Georgia relations and U.S. assistance to Georgia. U.S. Embassy Political Officer, Mr. Alan Purcell, also met with the visitors and gave them a short briefing on the political-economic situation in Georgia.
The Washington University group visited Georgia for three weeks to conduct research and learn more about the country. The U.S. – Caucasus Institute has been cooperating with Washington University since 2004. The cooperation includes co-editing an English language magazine, “Caucasus Context”, on the Caucasus, which is published by the World Security Institute in Washington, D.C. The U.S. – Caucasus Institute also promotes American Studies and Jazz studies in Georgia
