Field Day at Tsinamdzgvriantkari Agricultural College

On June 6, 2007 Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, within Georgian Rural Development Program (GRDP) funded by USDA, organized a field day at the Tsinamdzghvriantkari agro-humanitarian-ecological college located in Mtsketa Mtianeti Region.

The honorable guests of the event were staff members of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Mr. Paul F. Clayman and Ms. Manisha Singh, as well as Mr. David Gosney, Director, Office of Economic Growth, USAID/Caucasus. They observed the work and gained information about ongoing activities and projects.

Four interns from the University of Kentucky participated in several field activities. In particular, Jessy Horn delivered training regarding safety rules for pesticide use and John Wright demonstrated the process of manual application.

The students of the Tsinamdzgvriantkari College and graduate students from the University of Kentucky also participated in a demonstration of modern agricultural technology (soil laboratory, weather station); planting vegetable seedlings in the peach orchard; high quality seed barley production plot; and peach orchard management.

As part of a collaboration with agricultural colleges from different regions, Senaki Agricultural Economic College director Gia Khargelia delivered training regarding tomato seedlings and new technologies. Students and administrators from  Tsinamdzghvriantkari Agro-Humanitarian-Eecological College and local farmers also participated in the event.
