Tbilisi Mayor Participates in USAID Ground Breaking Ceremony
Thursday, May 31, Tbilisi Mayor, Gigi Ugulava joined Ambassdor Jon Tefft and USAID Country Directory Bob Wilson at the U.S. Embassy for a ground breaking ceremony celebrating the construction of USAID's new headquarters in Georgia. After brief words by Ambasssador Tefft, Mayor Ugulava and Country Director Wilson, the three joined Deputy Chief of Mission Mark Perry and "Esmon" Esmanpojan, construction project manager, in a ceremonial turning of spades to signify the start of construction. A light reception followed. The 3,300 square meter USAID building is due to be completed in 2008 and will be located on the new U.S. Embassy Compound in Didi Digomi, northern Tbilisi. The three story building will contain working space for 100 USAID workers.
