U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Awarded With Honoris Causa
On May 26, the Georgian University of Social Sciences awarded Rowena Cross-Najafi, U.S. Embassy Pubic Affairs Officer, with the Degree of Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa.
The Georgian University of Social Sciences (GUSS) was established at the end of 2002, by two professors of the Georgian Technical University and I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Dr. Manana Sanadze and Dr. Giuli Alasania. Dr. Sanadze and Dr. Alasania are both alumni of U.S. Department of State educational exchange programs. GUSS started as an American Studies Center. Later on, the founders of the Center introduced a similar program in European Studies. The two programs were designed to provide the students with a quality education in American or European Studies as well as acquaint them with the Western-type management models in the selected field of social life: Public Administration, Business Administration, Management of Culture and Education. The center was transformed into the School of Social Sciences in 2004 and shortly after into the Georgian University of Social Sciences. At the same ceremony, Edward Raupp, former Peace Corps volunteer in Georgia and Chancellor of GUSS, was awarded the first PhD degree to be issued by the university. |
