Rutgers University Professor Delivers a Series of Lectures on American Studies
On May 4-11, 2007, former Asst. Dean of the American Studies Department at Rutgers University, Dr. Michael Rockland, visited Georgia to deliver a series of lectures on American Studies and evaluate American Studies programs at leading Georgian universities.
On May 5, Dr. Rockland delivered a keynote address at the 9th Annual International Conference on American Studies.
From May 7 to May 11, Dr. Rockland delivered lectures on various topics of American studies at Batumi State University and Telavi State University. In Tbilisi, Dr. Rockland addressed students and faculty of the American Studies departments at the International Black Sea University and Tbilisi State University.
Dr. Rockland met with university faculty and administrators to review the existing curriculum and syllabi of American Studies programs.
As a result of Dr. Rockland’s visit, Tbilisi State University’s and Rutgers University’s American Studies Programs plan to collaborate on a variety of issues. Dr. Rockland has agreed to become a consultant of the Tbilisi State University American Studies MA and BA programs, to participate in reviewing syllabi and programs and to deliver distance-learning lectures for Georgian students of American Studies.
Dr. Michael Aaron Rockland is a distinguished professor of American Studies with over 30 years’ experience. Dr. Rockland has worked as a Chair and Assistant Dean of the Department of American Studies at the Rutgers University. He has extensive experience working abroad and has contributed to the development of a number of American Studies centers. He was the Director of Casa Americana in Madrid, Spain from 1963 until 1967.
Dr. Rockland has lectured on American Studies as a Fulbright fellow in Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador. He was a Senior Specialist on American Studies for the U.S. State Department in Norway and Italy. Dr. Rockland is also the author of over 100 publications and articles, including nine books.
