Ambassador Tefft Opens the American Studies Conference
On May 3, 2007, Ambassador Tefft opened the 9th Annual International Conference on American Studies at Tbilisi State University with other several dignitaries from both the Georgian and American governments. The conference, which lasted until May 5, addressed many aspects of American culture, history, politics and identity. The conference was funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.
Organized and chaired by the President of the Georgian Association for American Studies Dr. Vasil Kacharava, the conference featured presentations on a variety of issues ranging from pop art to Georgian-American relations in the present and in the past to American presence around the world. The conference also included interactive workshops where Georgians and Americans exchanged ideas and insights on American politics, American history, religion in the United States, social issues the United States faces, American art, American literature, economics, journalism and medicine.
This conference is the continuation of a tradition started in 1999. Professor Kacharava has remarked how successful the annual conference has become and thanked the United States Embassy for their assistance and support. |
