Discussing Role of African Americans in Development of the United States at American Corners in Gori, Telavi and Tbilisi
Over the course of March and April, US Embassy Assistant Security Attaché Jeffrey Hicks visited the Gori, Telavi and Tbilisi American Corners to give lectures on African American history. Mr. Hicks covered a wide range of material, beginning with the transatlantic slave trade era and ending with current events. The lectures focused on the role African Americans had in the development of the United State’s current pluralistic and inclusive democratic system, and highlighted the historical commonalities between Georgians and African Americans. Following the presentations, Mr. Hicks held a question and answer session with the audience on different social, political and cultural aspects of contemporary life of African Americans.
