Embassy Officials Visit UNOMIG’s Area Of Responsibility Together With Representatives Of Other Countries That Belong To The Group Of Friends Of The Secretary General
U.S. Embassy Political-Economic Chief Bridget Brink and Political Officer Alan Purcell visited the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) area of responsibility January 17-19. Brink and Purcell accompanied UNOMIG observers on patrols in both the Gali and Zugdidi sectors, where they had a chance to speak to local officials, law enforcement, and ordinary citizens on both sides of the cease-fire line in the Abkhazia conflict. Brink and Purcell also met with UN police and human rights officials. The visit underscored the need for security and transparency in the region, leading to a peaceful resolution of the conflict that will ensure a stable, prosperous future for Abkhazia in Georgia.
