Cultural Liaison Office Brings Holiday Feast to American Corner Youth Palace
On Thursday Jan 4th The Embassy’s Cultural Liaison Office (CLO) organized a holiday party and supper at the Tbilisi American Corner, Youth Palace. A group of 16 Americans and 40 Georgians, including students and adults, gathered for a sharing of Christmas and New Years traditions. The celebration included a question and answer period about holiday practices. Student Meghan Gibson read “The 12 days of Christmas” and her sister, Sarah Gibson, read ‘”T’was the night before Christmas”.
The visiting Americans talked about the biblical stories on which Christmas is based as well as popular secular holiday customs such as Santa, gift giving, greeting cards, and other family traditions. Participants also talked about American holiday foods and compared them to Georgian holiday meals. But since eating is believing, the crowning event was a traditional American Christmas dinner: Two turkeys, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, bread, stuffing and jello with fruit – which received rave reviews from the Georgian kids. After the meal the group made holiday crafts and gave out candy bags holiday messages. The holiday spirit was shared by all.
