American Musician Michelle Perry to perform at the 9th New Year Festival

On December 21, American musician Michelle Perry will perform at the 9th New Year Festival arranged by the Big Hall of Tbilisi State Conservatory.

The Grand Concert Hall is one of the major cultural centers of the country. It was built in 1940s and restored in 1997 and is registered as an object of national and cultural heritage. For the last nine years it has been a tradition to hold a series of Christmas Concerts with the participation of prominent Georgian and visiting musicians at the Concert Hall. Due to the State Conservatory’s and the Concert hall’s fine reputation - many well-known musicians from around the world have participated in this festival. The US embassy, a traditional partner of the festival, has brought many well known and talented American musicians in the past. This year the Embassy hosts Michelle Perry, a French horn player. Together with the Conservatory student orchestra she will perform pieces by Luigi Boccherini, Ianosh Ianacheck, Tom Schanauber and Josef Suk.

Michelle Perry began her musical studies on piano at the age of six, and performed her first solo recital at the age of seven. A native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ms. Perry has traveled extensively, performing in hundreds of concerts across the United States, South-East Asia, Europe, South America, and the Far East. A Yamaha Young Performing Artist, she has been a guest artist at the Bands of America National Convention, sponsored by Yamaha Corporation, the 1998 and 2000 Oklahoma Mozart International Festivals, and has had solo performances in the United States and abroad.

Ms. Perry's orchestral engagements include performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Milwaukee Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, New World Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic, Oslo Radio Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, and in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Pierre Boulez. As a member of the Southwest Brass Quintet, she served as an artist-in-residence in several public schools, presenting many public concerts and educational outreach programs.

She was the winner of the Houston Symphony's prestigious 2000 Ima Hogg International Solo Competition and was a member of the New World Symphony, playing Principal Horn under the direction of Michael Tilson-Thomas. Recently she served as Principal Horn of the Malaysian Philharmonic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ms. Perry currently freelances in the Boston area and most recently has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. Ms. Perry can be heard on Summit Records and RCA Victor.
