Evening of American Poetry

On Saturday, December 16, 2006, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy hosted an “Evening of American Poetry” in the reconstructed medieval recital hall of Hotel Kopala in Tbilisi. The reading included works by Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and other prominent American poets. Rowena Cross-Najafi, Public Affairs Officer, read each poem aloud in English, then well-known Georgian poet Kote Kubaneishvili read his Georgian translation of each one. Sandro Glurjidze, student of the American Academy of Tbilisi, also read two of his own original poems in English. A standing-room-only crowd of about 90 guests attended the event, which was followed by a reception.
