FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR DELIVERS A LECTURE ON ARCHAEOLOGY

On December 12, 2006, Dr. Reid Ferring, Fulbright Scholar and Professor of the Department of Geography from the University of North Texas, delivered a public lecture “Let’s Talk About Archaeology” at the Alexandre Dumas Center in Tbilisi. Dr. Ferring has been lecturing and consulting in Georgia since September 2006. Dr. Ferring gives courses on archaeology at Tbilisi State University and is consulting the Georgian National Museum on the creation of an exhibit on the Dmanisi archaeological site.

The remains of the "first human to leave Africa" (National Geographic magazine, August 2002 issue) were discovered beneath the ruins of the medieval town of Dmanisi in Georgia. In 2005, a team of archaeologists discovered new skulls in Dmanisi. “The new discovery of Georgian scientists may enter the Guinness Book of Records,” according to the newspaper “Georgian Business Weekly,” August 15, 2005 issue. In all, five hominid skulls have been found in Dmanisi, more than have ever been found in one location anywhere in the world.
