Ambassador Tefft Addresses Students And Faculty At Tbilisi State University
On November 24, 2006, Ambassador John Tefft visited Tbilisi State University (TSU), where he met with the rector, Dr. Gia Khubua, and addressed students and faculty on “The Role of Diplomacy in the 21st Century.” More than 120 students of the Department of Humanitarian Studies, including Faculties of International Relations and International Law attended the lecture. Ambassador Tefft talked about the history of diplomacy, its importance in the modern world and the role of a diplomat in shaping a country’s foreign policy. The Ambassador also elaborated on globalization, explained what soft power means and how it can influence contemporary politics. Following Ambassador Tefft’s remarks, students addressed him with a number of questions about U.S. – Georgia relations, Georgia’s integration into NATO, conflicts with breakaway regions, U.S. foreign policy in general, and more.
