Kutaisi Hosts Third International Conference On American Studies
On November 3, 2006 Akaki Tsereteli State University (ATSU) in Kutaisi celebrated the opening of the third International Conference on American Studies. The three day conference was organized by Dr. Vakhtang Amaglobeli, Fulbright scholar and Head of the American Studies Center at ATSU. ATSU Rector Giorgi Oniani opened the conference and greeted all the participants and invited guests. Among speakers who offered welcoming remarks were Rowena Cross-Najafi, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy, Professor Tyrus Miller, Cowell College Provost, University of California, Santa Cruz, Professor Christiane Von Reichert, Associate Professor of Georgraphy, University of Montana, Professor Vasiko Kacharava, Head of the American Studies Center in Tbilisi and Professor Irakli Tskhvediani, Head of the West European and American Literature Department, ATSU.
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy provided financial assistance to the American Studies Center in Kutaisi to organize the Third International Conference on American Studies. Professors and scholars from a number of Georgian universities attended and presented more than 50 papers during the three-day conference. |
