Public Affairs Officer Visits Abkhazia
From September 10-14, 2006 U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Rowena Cross-Najafi visited Abkhazia, accompanied by Tim Blauvelt and Jennifer Reynolds of American Councils, who were on a mission to recruit high school students for the U.S. State Department-funded Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program. Ms. Cross-Najafi greeted a group of students who came to participate in the testing competition. She also met with a number of officials from the de facto authorities, Sukhumi University, the non-governmental sector, and local libraries to discuss opportunities for future cooperation. She also visited arts and culture institutions.
The de facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs displayed the finest traditions of Abkhaz hospitality, ensuring that Ms. Cross-Najafi enjoyed the best of Abkhaz food and wine. A highlight of the visit was a day trip to Blue Lake, Lake Ritsa and Pitsunda. On the final evening of her stay, Ms. Cross-Najafi hosted a dinner for FLEX alumni. |
