Public Affairs Summer Hire Discusses Movie on Human Trafficking at American Corner, Gori
On August 9, 2006, Lyra Brayshaw, a Summer Hire assigned to the Embassy Public Affairs Section, traveled to Gori American Corner to give a screening of the documentary "Frontline: Sex Slaves". The film focuses on the plight of women from the former Soviet Union who were forced into prostitution. Sex Slaves is an important film for creating awareness about the risks and dangers of the trafficking industry and its human cost. Most of the women in the documentary were tricked into prostitution by falling for employment scams, many believing that they were taking reputable jobs abroad. After the screening, Lyra conducted an open discussion group on the issue of trafficking. Many women in the audience talked about how people could solve this continuing problem.
