U.S. Government Donates Personal
Protective Equipment to the Ministry of Agriculture
On February 15, 2006, Ambassador Tefft presented a donation
of 500 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the
Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. The equipment has come to
Georgia as a result of last month’s visit by a delegation of
American experts who traveled to Georgia to ascertain the country’s
state of readiness to deal with an outbreak of avian flu. Among
the findings was that Georgia has an immediate need for personal
protective equipment (PPE) to protect those people gathering
bird samples, testing bird samples, and treating human cases,
should there be any in the future.
USAID delivered 500 pieces of the protective gear to the Ministry
of Agriculture of Georgia. It is anticipated that around 600
PPEs to be delivered will be provided to the Ministry of Labor,
Health, and Social Affairs. USAID Director Denny Robertson personally
demonstrated how the protective uniforms are worn.
