Joanne Braxton Talks With Georgian
Scholars And Students Via Dvc In Honor Of Black History Month
On February 15, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section conducted
a digital video conference (DVC) with Dr. Joanne Braxton, African-American
poet and Professor of English and the Humanities from the College
of William and Mary. Dr. Braxton gave a lecture on “Letters
of Liberation” – autobiographies of Black women. 35 Georgian
scholars and students from the Georgian Association of American
Studies and American Studies Departments of the International
Black Sea University, University of Social Sciences, and Tbilisi
State University participated in the DVC. Guests of U.S. Embassies
in Madrid, Skopje and Berlin also took part in the DVC.
The DVC was dedicated to Black History Month and gave Georgian
scholars and students an opportunity to interact with a leading
American scholar in the field of Black history. All American
Studies libraries in Georgia will receive Dr. Braxton’s publication
“Black Women Writing Autobiography.”
