SELF conducts Train-the-Trainer
Courses
From January 23rd to February 3rd Senior English Language
Fellow, Diane Millar, conducted two intensive Train-the-Trainer
courses for regional English language teachers. As a result
of these courses 21 English teachers are now certified to run
future teacher-training courses at their local ETAG (English
Teachers’ Association of Georgia) branches. First, seven trainees
from Rustavi, Telavi, Gori and Zugdidi braved snowy roads and
a cold classroom to attend the 8-day course “Modern English
Language Teaching.” Ms. Millar worked with two experienced co-trainers,
Ms. Nelly Kukhaleishvili from Batumi and Ms. Nana Shavishvili
from Tbilisi to deliver the daily sessions. Then sixteen trainees
from Rustavi, Gori, Poti, Batumi, Zugdidi, Alkhaltsikhe and
Tbilisi attended the second course “More Learning, Less Teaching.”
During both courses trainees learned more about current English
teaching methodology and demonstrated their skills as future
teacher-trainers. Starting in February these certified teacher-trainers
will be able to deliver both of these courses to regional ETAG
teachers around the country. The courses were generously funded
by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy and by the Department
of State’s English Language Fellow Program.
