U.S Embassy Commemorates 9/11 with Ceremony of Remembrance
On September 11, 200 6, a ceremony was held in the courtyard of the U.S. Embassy to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States. Among those in attendance were Ambassador Tefft, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James C. MacDougall, Speaker of Parliament Nino Burjanadze, members of the Diplomatic Corp, and other representatives from the Georgian government.
The ceremony was highlighted by remarks from Ambassador Tefft, who spoke of and gave homage to those who lost their lives in the tragic events of 9/11 and their families. “As we contemplate the meaning of September 11 in our own lives, there is one constant. We are all drawn back to the memory of the innocent people who died that day…It is those people we remember today. It is their families we remember – families who still grieve, whose lives were changed forever that day.” Following Ambassador Tefft’s remarks, a moment of silence was observed for the victims of the terrorist attacks.
