Embassy Intern Brings the Land of 10,000 Lakes to Gori American Corner

On August 14, 2006, Colleen Traughber, a summer intern in the Political/Economic Section of the Embassy, gave a presentation at the America Corner in Gori on "Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Lakes." Her presentation covered the history of Minnesota as well as the cultural quirkiness of this Midwestern state. The student audience was wowed by Minnesota fun facts such as the length of the state's coastline: With over 10,000 lakes, the coastline in Minnesota is longer than the coastlines of California, Hawaii, and Florida combined. Through the presentation, the audience also learned the basics of "how to speak Minnesotan." Audience members were particularly impressed by Minnesota pastimes, which include ice fishing in the winter and boating in the summer. After the presentation, Colleen answered Minnesota-related questions.
