U.S. Treasury Supports Budget Reforms in Autonomous Republic of Adjara

On July 15th, at the request of Georgia State Finance Minister Aleksi Aleksishvili and Minister of Finance of Adjara Natela Tsiklashvili, US Treasury Resident Budget Advisor Jason Orlando gave a presentation on the status of Georgia’s state budget reforms for budget and finance staff in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. In attendance were representatives from the Adjara Ministries of Finance, Education, Agriculture, and Health as well as various local governments, including Kobuleti, Khelvachauri, Shuakhevi, Qeda, Khulo, and the City of Batumi. The purpose of the meeting, which was held in the Adjara capital Batumi, was to share ideas regarding ways to strengthen the budget and financial managements systems in Adjara based on the State Government’s experience with such reforms. Resident Budget Advisor Orlando discussed Georgia’s transition to multi-year budgeting and planning as well current efforts to make the state budget more comprehensive and transparent. Mr. Orlando was accompanied by Georgia State Deputy Minister of Finance Grigol Gobejishvili. Mr. Gobejishvili and his staff discussed recent changes in the laws on local government and local budgeting. U.S. Treasury has been providing budget technical assistance to the Ministry of Finance of Georgia since 1996.
