Georgian Schools Celebrate U.S. Independence Day

On July 5, 2006, two Tbilisi public schools –School No. 55 and Experimental School No. 1--hosted U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Rowena Cross-Najafi and Cultural Affairs Assistant Magda Magradze to celebrate U.S. Independence Day. Both of these schools teach English as the primary foreign language. The event included an exhibit of posters dedicated to U.S. Independence Day and world peace created by students, a documentary film presentation on U.S. independence, a performance by students of School No. 55 and a demonstration basketball game between two school teams. The event was organized by students and teachers of School No. 55. The students hope to make celebration of U.S. Independence Day a tradition and involve other schools in Georgia in the future.
