Farewell To Fulbright Scholar Clayton Parr

On June 23, 2006, Rowena Cross-Najafi, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy, hosted a farewell event in honor of Fulbright Scholar Clayton Parr.

During June 2005-August 2006 Dr. Parr carried out research and lecturing in music. Dr. Parr’s primary affiliations were the Tbilisi State Conservatory and International Black Sea University. Dr. Parr lectured on choral literature, spirituals, Music and American Cinema, 20th century American choral composers, and Britten's War Requiem. He also coached solo vocal students on English diction and musical style. In addition, Dr. Parr sang American solo vocal selections at vocal symposium recitals and assisted in the translation of a textbook on Georgian folk music, the American publication of which is pending. Dr. Parr was the guest editor of an issue of the International Choral Bulletin dedicated to Georgian music.

In June 2006, Dr. Parr performed as a soloist with the National Music Center, State Capella, Music Center Orchestra, Orff's Carmina Burana at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Sixty guests attended the farewell reception, at which Dr. Parr together with Okros Stumrebi - choir of foreigners singing Georgian folk music performed three outstanding Georgian folk songs for the guests.
