Bryza Returns to Georgia
In his first trip since the U.S. elections, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Bryza, returned to Tbilisi for a series of consultations and meetings with Georgian leaders. Bryza met with the President, the Parliamentary Speaker, and Parliamentary and non-Parliamentary Opposition before leaving for Switzerland for the third round of Geneva talks. Bryza, well-known in Georgia, was consistently followed by a throng of media reporters and happily engaged the press throughout his trip. In his packed press conference at the Tbilisi Marriot, organized by the Embassy public affairs section, Bryza reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Georgia’s stability and territorial integrity. He stressed the need to concentrate efforts on IDP’s and called on Russia to fulfill all of its obligations from the August 12 and September 8th ceasefire agreements.
