U.S. Embassy Assists 100 IDPs through Arts and Crafts

On Saturday, December 20, Embassy staff attended an exhibition/sale of IDP craftwork in Gori organized by the NGO, the Georgian Textile Group, to conclude their USG-funded project “IDP Psycho-Social Rehabilitation through Art & Crafts.”  Sale revenues will help IDP families, and as part of the event, the IDP children enjoyed a marionette-show and received Christmas presents from the organizers.  Over the three months of the project, more than 100 IDP women and children in Gori participated in daily arts and crafts activities, to include painting, drawing, felt-making, embroidery, quilting, puppet-making, and animated film-making, under the direction of art teachers and psychologists.  The Embassy hopes to continue to support these IDP artisans by organizing a similar exhibit and sale at the U.S. Embassy in January and/or by follow-on grant proposals to support entrepreneur development within newly-resettled IDP communities.  Rustavi-2 TV and Gori regional newspaper highlighted the event.
