December 9, Acts Donates Medical Supplies

On December 9, 2003, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles and Minister of Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia Amiran Gamkrelidze officially announced that Georgia received a shipment of urgently needed medications sent by a non-governmental organization, A Call to Serve International (ACTS). The shipment is valued at $3 million and will go to the medical facilities of the targeted high mountain regions of Georgia. Since 1991, the U.S. Department of State and ACTS International have provided targeted humanitarian assistance throughout Georgia with special focus on acute areas of need in the high mountain regions. This shipment illustrates the continued interest of the United States in the well being of the Georgian people as they continue their transition to a free and prosperous democratic society.
