2003 Embassy Events

November 12, American Embassy holds bazaar of local Georgian crafts

A mini bazaar was held in the American Embassy "Ball Room" on Wednesday, November 12, 2003. Seven vendors attended and U.S. Mission staff were able to purchase Georgian gifts for friends and family in the United States. Most things were small craft items that could easily be mailed back to the US as gifts. Traditional Georgian enamel jewelry was popular, as was the traditional Georgian feltwork. There were hand-made cards, and dolls, and one vendor selling lovely handmade candles represented handicapped adults. The wooden toys were very popular with children and adults alike. Staff's children were brought over by Embassy buses after school so that they might shop for their parents. After a snack, they converged upon the tables with glee. It was as much fun watching them as it was shopping. Everyone seemed to have a great time, it gave the children a chance to do Christmas shopping for their families, and it gave the U.S. Mission staff a chance to become more familiar with local craftsmen.
