November 8, U.S. Embassy Marine Security Detachment celebrates the 228th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps

On November 8th, the six Marines attached to the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia hosted the traditional Birthday Ball celebrating the founding of the United States Marine Corps in 1775. The Marine Birthday Ball honors the men and women who have served in the United States Marine Corps throughout the entire history of the United States. A highlight of the Marine Corps Birthday Ball is when the cake is cut and served to the oldest Marine present who passes it to the youngest Marine present, thus symbolizing the passing on of values and standards from the past to the present and the commitment Marines have to each other. The Marine Corps birthday is celebrated wherever Marines are stationed, including many American embassies throughout the world.
